Certain hairstyles can enhance a woman's physical beauty. According to research, beauty essentially relates to genetic and socially-desirable qualities, and personality traits that attract potential mates in the process of genetic selection. Specializing in the field of evolutionary psychology, Bereczkei and Mesko sampled 77 women who were 18 to 29 years old whom 112 men rated in two batches on a beauty scale of 1-6 and trait scale of 1-7.

Beauty Basics

Of the 77 women, the researchers selected the 10 most and 10 least beautiful according to the beauty scale ratings of 30 men. The researchers culled the remaining 57 from the experiment to test the extremes of beauty. Since hair could have a great influence on men's perception of beauty, all hairs of the 20 select women were pulled back from their faces and fixed with clips. Next, they were photographed then their photos were saved in the computer.

Women who were rated most beautiful, based on their faces without the influence of hair, had 3 major facial traits. Higher foreheads, bigger eyes and smaller chins in relation to the height of the face were the traits that made a woman beautiful. Based on the measurements of these facial traits, the researchers found that the most beautiful women looked young. In scientific parlance, they had "higher neonate qualities." The researchers used a software to measure women's faces.
