Venture away from the glitz of Cannes waterfront, up the hill of Le Suquet, the city’s ancient village. If you go before lunch, you will find the base of the hill (on rue Dr. P. Gayagnaire) bustling with the colorful March Forville, the city’s open-air market.

After the sun sets, though, the action is up the narrow pedestrian streets that wind towards the 11th century tower. The artist’s studios and shops that line Rue Saint Antoine mingle with tasty cafes. Sit at one of sidewalk tables and your meal may be serenaded by street musicians playing traditional Provençal music.
